Dr. Mehling attended medical school at the University of Alberta, receiving his MD degree with distinction in 1993. He entered a six year residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery, which he completed in 1999.
Next he completed a two year postgraduate fellowship training, first in microsurgery and reconstructive breast surgery at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and then in aesthetic plastic surgery at the Cosmetic Surgery Hospital in Toronto.
Dr. Mehling returned to his home province in 2001 to join the attending staff of the University of Alberta’s Division of Plastic Surgery. Since then, his primary area clinical interest and main focus of his practice is plastic surgery of the breast.
Dr. Mehling is a fellow of the Royal College Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC), and a member of several professional societies including the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons (CSPS), the Canadian Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (CSAPS), and the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors Medical Society.
He sits on the Professional Advisory Council of the Hereditary Breast & Ovarian Cancer Society of Alberta (HBOC), and is the current secretary of the Alberta Society of Plastic Surgeons.
